Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, finished fifth at the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket in Angola.
The event took place from August 12 to 24, with hosts Angola lifting the trophy. They beat Mali 70-43 in the final to claim a record 12th title. It was Angola’s first African crown since 2013.

D’Tigers reached the quarter-finals but lost 91-75 to Senegal, who later won bronze. Before that, Nigeria topped Group B after beating Madagascar, Tunisia, and Cameroon.
Coach Mohammed Abdulrahman’s men won three matches and lost one to end fifth overall. Egypt placed sixth, while Ivory Coast and Cape Verde made the top eight.
D’Tigers will return in November for the FIBA World Cup qualifiers. They will fight for a spot at the 2027 tournament in Qatar.
