The Delta State Police Command has arrested four officers captured in a viral video counting bundles of cash inside a patrol vehicle, a development that has sparked public outrage.
In a statement on Tuesday, Command spokesperson Bright Edafe confirmed the arrests, describing the footage as “embarrassing.”
“The policemen in the embarrassing video have been identified and arrested. They appeared before the Commissioner of Police today,” Edafe said. “The four personnel, two of them senior officers, have been queried, while the two inspectors have been detained and are awaiting an orderly room trial.”
The video, which surfaced over the weekend, showed the officers seated in a patrol van casually handling stacks of naira notes. The clip drew widespread criticism, with many Nigerians questioning the integrity of the officers and demanding swift disciplinary measures.
Edafe earlier assured the public that the Command would take decisive action against those involved. Tuesday’s move marks the first step in what is expected to be a broader disciplinary process.
The police authorities did not disclose the source of the money seen in the video or whether the officers would face criminal investigation beyond internal disciplinary proceedings.
