Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has declared that he will not contest for any political office in the 2027 general elections.

Instead, he aims to support credible leadership at all levels, mentoring young people, women, and reform-minded Nigerians to take ownership of the political process.

El-Rufai made this known while receiving defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party into the African Democratic Congress in Kaduna.

He explained that his initial plan after leaving office in 2023 was to step away from partisan politics, but recent national developments compelled him to return. “I am not contesting for anything; I don’t want to go to the Senate. I am not contesting for any position,” he stated. El-Rufai criticized the current government, saying it “does nothing but lie every day” and urged citizens to join hands to “remove the oppressors”.

The former governor also emphasized the importance of voter registration, noting that only 60,000 people have registered in Kaduna compared to at least 600,000 in Lagos and Osun.

He encouraged young people to register and participate in the electoral process, stressing that their involvement is crucial to changing the political landscape.
