A woman identified as Amaye was brutally lynched and set ablaze by a mob in Kasuwan-Garba town, Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State, Nigeria, over alleged blasphemous remarks against Prophet Muhammad.

The incident occurred on Saturday, August 30, 2025, after a customer jokingly proposed marriage to her, citing the tradition of the Prophet, and she responded in a way perceived as offensive.

Despite being taken to the palace of the District Head of Kasuwan-Garba and later handed over to security operatives for investigation, the mob overpowered the security personnel and attacked her, leaving her to succumb to her injuries.

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the incident, condemning the act of “jungle justice” and assuring that efforts are underway to identify, arrest, and prosecute those involved.

The police spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, appealed to the public to remain calm and allow security agencies to handle sensitive matters according to the law.

This incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with human rights advocates expressing concerns over the recurring trend of mob actions in parts of the country.
