The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has presented certificates of return to the 23 chairmen-elect who emerged winners in the recently concluded local government elections.

The ceremony, held on Monday at the RSIEC headquarters in Port Harcourt, was attended by supporters and family members of the elected council chairmen.

Speaking at the event, RSIEC Chairman, Michael Odey, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to due process, fairness, and transparency in the conduct of the polls.

Some of the chairmen-elect also shared their plans for governance at the grassroots. Aboiya Bob-Fubara, elected chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, pledged to deliver projects that would positively impact the lives of his people.

“I will do my best to bring the necessary transformation to Akuku-Toru Local Government Area,” he said.

Onengiyeofori George, chairman-elect of Asari-Toru LGA, who is returning for a second term, promised to consolidate on his earlier achievements.

“It’s my second term and I will continue in my works,” he said.

The next step in the process will be the swearing-in ceremony, after which the chairmen-elect will officially assume office at the third tier of government.
