A convoy belonging to Abubakar Malami, former Attorney-General of the Federation and current leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State, was attacked by suspected political thugs in Birnin Kebbi.
The incident occurred on Monday, September 1, 2025, while Malami was returning from a condolence visit to a family in the state capital.
The attackers, allegedly from the All Progressives Congress (APC) state headquarters, damaged about 10 vehicles in the convoy and injured several supporters.
Malami described the attack as “painful and unfortunate,” claiming it was politically motivated and linked to the APC. “Some thugs emerged from the APC state headquarters, armed with weapons and stones, and attacked our convoy, destroying vehicles and injuring our supporters,” he said. Malami vowed that there would be “no retreat, no surrender” in Kebbi politics.
However, the APC denied involvement in the attack. Isa Assalafy, the party’s Kebbi State Publicity Secretary, condemned the violence and described Kebbi as a peaceful state. “No government that enjoys massive support from the people and is confident of victory in 2027 would want the peace of the state disrupted,” Assalafy said, alleging that security personnel attached to Malami’s convoy fired shots during the confrontation, escalating the situation.
The Kebbi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident.
