Commuters along the Kubwa Expressway in the Federal Capital Territory were held up in heavy traffic on Monday morning after a trailer overturned and blocked part of the road.
Confirming the incident, the FCT Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Felix Theman, said the crash caused a major gridlock due to the partial blockade of the expressway.
“There’s currently a gridlock because a section of the expressway has been blocked by the fallen trailer. However, our officers are fully on ground, ensuring motorists use the service lane and the one or two lanes that remain accessible,”.
He appealed to motorists to remain calm and cooperate with FRSC personnel to prevent the situation from escalating.

“Indiscipline, impatience, and lack of cooperation could compound the current traffic situation. It’s crucial that drivers exercise patience and discipline,” he said.
Theman confirmed that efforts are underway to remove the obstruction, adding that a towing company had been contacted.
“We’ve engaged the relevant towing service, and their truck is already on its way. In no time, we hope to clear the trailer and restore normal traffic flow,” he stated.
According to him, the trailer crash was caused by a tyre pullout, which led the vehicle to topple across the road. He added that there were no fatalities, though a few people sustained minor injuries.
As of press time, the trailer was yet to be removed and traffic remained slow in both directions.
