Hundreds of supporters gathered to the VIP wing of the Port Harcourt International Airport on Friday as they awaited the arrival of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Sources confirmed to that the governor who has reportedly been away from the state, was expected to land soon.

Fubara has been at the centre of a prolonged political crisis involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule. The dispute led President Bola Tinubu to impose a six-month suspension on the governor, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and members of the House of Assembly.

On Wednesday, President Tinubu declared an end to the emergency rule in Rivers State. However, while the House of Assembly reconvened on Thursday, Governor Fubara was absent from the Government House, despite the large crowd of supporters who had gathered in anticipation of his return.
Further developments are expected as the situation unfolds.
