Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged to work harmoniously with the State House of Assembly to restore stability and accelerate the state’s social and economic development following the end of emergency rule.

In a statewide broadcast on Friday, Fubara described the six-month period of emergency as one of the most challenging moments in the state’s history. He said his decision not to challenge the presidential declaration was guided by the conviction that “no sacrifice is too great for peace in Rivers State.”
The governor expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for what he described as a “fatherly intervention” that restored full democratic governance to the state.

“The President graciously brokered peace during this period, and we all accepted it, though not without the hard lessons learnt during the emergency rule,” Fubara said.
He also acknowledged the role of his political leader, former Governor Nyesom Wike, the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and other stakeholders in sustaining peace.

Fubara thanked the Speaker and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for their cooperation and assured his supporters that “not everything is irretrievably lost” as opportunities still lie ahead for reconciliation and development.
“The costly peace is cheaper than the cheapest war,” he said, while stressing the need for leaders to put aside personal interests and work for the common good.
The governor recalled his administration’s achievements before the emergency rule in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other key sectors, promising to resume funding of ongoing projects to ensure their completion.
He reaffirmed his commitment to serve with “the fear of God, humility, and a high sense of duty,” and to strengthen collaboration with the Assembly for the benefit of the state.
Fubara also expressed appreciation to Rivers citizens for their resilience, peaceful conduct, and prayers during the crisis. He urged all political, religious, and ethnic groups to embrace unity and rebuild trust for a more prosperous future.
“Let us work together with renewed hope and determination to build a stronger, more peaceful and prosperous Rivers State,” he said.
