Luca Zidane, son of French World Cup legend Zinedine Zidane, has officially switched his international allegiance from France to Algeria.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper, born near Marseille, represented France at youth level but has now been cleared by FIFA to play for Algeria. His decision could see him feature at the 2026 World Cup in North America, with the Desert Foxes on the brink of qualification ahead of their clash with Somalia next month.

Zidane, the second of four brothers who all progressed through Real Madrid’s academy, currently plays for Spanish second-tier side Granada. He previously made two senior appearances for Real Madrid, gained La Liga experience at Rayo Vallecano, and later featured for Eibar before moving to Andalusia in 2024.

Through his father, Zidane qualifies for Algeria, with his paternal grandparents originating from the Kabylie region. His father, Zinedine, is celebrated as one of football’s greatest, having led France to World Cup glory in 1998 with two goals in the final against Brazil, though his international career ended dramatically with a red card in the 2006 final against Italy.
