Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle and the redeployment of senior civil service staff as part of efforts to strengthen governance and improve service delivery in the state.

In a statement on Monday, the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, said the changes were aimed at “maximising capacity, aligning responsibilities, and ensuring effective results across key ministries.”

Under the new directive, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Transport, while Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, will now serve as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment.

The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, who had been overseeing the Ministry of Transport in an acting capacity, is expected to return to her substantive role.

All affected officials were directed to hand over responsibilities to the most senior officers in their respective ministries, with the exercise to be completed before the close of business on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to accountability and transparency, Governor Yusuf said:

“This redeployment is intended to maximise capacity, align responsibilities, and ensure that government delivers effective results on its mandate to the people of Kano State. We remain committed to efficiency and purposeful leadership that meets the expectations of our citizens.”

The governor urged appointees and civil servants to give their full support to the newly redeployed officials, stressing that smooth cooperation was essential for a seamless transition.

In a related development, the state government on Monday commenced training for the first batch of 380 volunteer youths out of 600 recruited into the Special Anti-Phone Snatching and VIP Protection Guards. The two-week intensive training is designed to equip participants with the skills needed to combat phone snatching, thuggery, and related crimes across Kano.

This comes on the heels of Governor Yusuf’s recent move to strengthen education in the state. Just last week, he presented appointment letters to 4,315 former volunteer teachers, making their employment permanent and pensionable.

According to the government, the latest recruitment is part of an ongoing expansion in the education sector, which has seen the approval of 5,500 teachers in 2023, 5,632 in 2024, and 4,000 in May 2025.
