The National Assembly in Nigeria has postponed its resumption from September 23 to October 7, 2025.
According to the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, the decision was made by the presiding officers of both the Senate and House of Representatives.
Although the reason for the shift wasn’t specified, sources suggest it might be to allow lawmakers to participate in the October 1 Independence Day celebrations.
The memo, titled “Reschedule of Resumption Date of Plenary Activities in the National Assembly,” informs members and the public of the new date and requests that they adjust their schedules accordingly.
Committee activities will continue as planned, despite the postponement of the plenary session.
The Senate and House of Representatives had initially adjourned on July 24 for a two-month annual vacation, expecting to resume today.
The postponement means key legislative activities, including oversight of government spending and consideration of executive appointments, will be delayed until October 7.
