The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has announced traffic diversions on Lagos Island ahead of the E1 Lagos GP, Africa’s first-ever electric powerboat racing event, scheduled for Saturday, October 4, and Sunday, October 5.

The E1 Championship, which debuted in Jeddah last year, features nine teams competing across selected global cities. Lagos will become the first African city to host the event in its second season. Some of the participating teams are owned by international sports icons, including Didier Drogba, Rafael Nadal, and NBA stars LeBron James.
In a statement on Tuesday, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said traffic diversions and road closures would be implemented at the 1st Lekki Junction inward Ozumba Mbadiwe during the event.

Motorists from Ajah heading to Lekki are advised to make a U-turn at the Lekki 1st Junction pedestrian bridge and link Yesufu Abiodun through Maroko Police Station to access City of David, Ligali Ayorinde, Ajose Adeogun, and Eko Hotel roundabout before connecting to Ahmadu Bello Way, Independence Bridge, and Onikan.
Alternatively, road users from Ajah to CMS can pass through Abraham Adesanya to Ogombo Road, link Okun Ajah Road, and connect Coastal Road to Ahmadu Bello Way and Independence Bridge.
For those traveling from Lekki to Ikoyi or the Mainland, the ministry recommended Admiralty Way to Lekki Link Bridge, then Alexander Road and Bourdillon Way to Gerrard Road and Osborne Road.

Similarly, motorists heading from Lekki to CMS may connect Yesufu Abiodun, link Oniru Road to Aboyade Cole, and proceed via Ligali Ayorinde to Eko Hotel roundabout and Ahmadu Bello Way.
Traffic from CMS/Independence Bridge and Ozumba Mbadiwe inward Lekki-Epe Expressway will continue as normal toward Ajah.
The government also announced designated parking spaces at Fidelity Bank, Access Bank, and the Nigerian Law School premises on Victoria Island.
While assuring residents that the coastal road will remain open throughout the event, the government appealed for cooperation with Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials, who will be stationed along event routes to manage flow and ensure safety.
