The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has suspended the Lagos State Chairman, Ms. Olatutu Oladunni, and the Secretary, Mr. Bello Omotunde Muritala, from all association activities with immediate effect.
The decision, communicated in a letter dated Thursday, October 2, 2025, and copied to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, followed findings of gross misconduct by the duo. According to the NEC, the move was taken in line with Article 21, Section (1) A and C of the SWAN Statute.
In the interim, the association directed both officials to hand over all SWAN property and documents in their possession to the Lagos State Chapter leadership. The Vice Chairman, Mr. Aaron Akerejola, has been appointed acting chairman to oversee the state chapter until the expiration of the current tenure.
Part of the NEC letter read:

“We write to formally notify you that the National Executive Committee of SWAN has ratified the suspension of Olatutu Oladunni and Bello Omotunde Muritala from all activities of the association. The decision is in line with SWAN statutory provisions following their various acts of misconduct. By this notification, both persons have been directed to stay away from all issues, events, meetings, and forums concerning SWAN immediately.”
The letter further stated that the suspended officers are barred from accessing SWAN secretariats nationwide, including the National Stadium in Lagos and the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
The NEC also cautioned the public against transacting any business with the suspended officials in connection with SWAN.
In addition, the association announced the suspension of all electoral activities by the Lagos State SWAN Electoral Committee (SWANECO), pending further directives.
