The Nigerian House of Representatives is considering a constitutional amendment to hold all elections on the same day, aiming to enhance credibility and boost voter turnout.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas stated that the proposed reform would cover presidential, national assembly, governorship, and state house of assembly elections, currently held on different days.
Abbas emphasized that this move would reduce the electoral process’s complexity and increase voter participation, noting that state assemblies must endorse the proposed reforms.
The House is committed to far-reaching electoral reforms, including reserved seats for women and persons with disabilities, financial autonomy, and defined roles for traditional rulers.
