A Kenyan court has intervened in a dispute between the family of late Nigerian Air Vice Marshal Terry O. Okorodudu and the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, ordering the hospital to release the deceased’s body for burial despite an outstanding bill of Sh9.8 million (N111 million).
The court ruled that the family must deposit Sh8 million in court or have the deceased’s son surrender his passport and not leave the country until the dispute is resolved.
The hospital had withheld the body pending payment, sparking a legal battle with the family, who argued that holding the body as security for debt was unlawful and caused immense anguish.
The court acknowledged both parties’ rights, emphasizing the need for balance in resolving the dispute.
