The Flying Eagles of Nigeria sealed their passage to the Round of 16 at the ongoing 24th FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile after holding Colombia to a 1-1 draw in their final Group F game early Monday morning.

In a tense encounter at the Estadio Fiscal de Talca, the seven-time African champions displayed grit and determination, with goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt making key saves in the 23rd and 26th minutes to deny the South Americans.
Despite Colombia’s early dominance, Nigeria grew into the game, with Tahir Maigana, Kparobo Arierhi, and Suleman Sani threatening repeatedly and hitting the woodwork on multiple occasions.

Colombia took the lead in the 51st minute through Kener Gonzalez, who finished calmly from a Neyser Villareal assist.
Undeterred, the Flying Eagles pressed for an equaliser, and Odinaka Okoro came close with a header in the 76th minute. Their persistence paid off eight minutes from time when captain Daniel Bameyi converted from the penalty spot after a Colombian defender handled Maigana’s goal-bound strike.

Nigeria almost snatched victory in the 89th minute, but Arierhi’s effort was blocked inside the box.
The result confirmed Nigeria’s place in the knockout stage, where they will face Argentina at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago on Wednesday — a repeat of the quarter-final clash from the last edition hosted by Argentina, which the Flying Eagles won 2–0 in San Juan.

In other Round of 16 fixtures, Colombia will face South Africa, while Norway take on Paraguay.
