The International Criminal Court (ICC) has convicted Ali Muhammad Ali Abd-Al-Rahman, also known as Ali Kushayb, of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the Darfur conflict in Sudan.

Kushayb, a former leader of the government-backed Janjaweed militia, was found guilty of 27 counts of crimes including rape, murder, and torture.

The atrocities were committed between 2003 and 2004, resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths and widespread displacement.

The ICC judges determined that Kushayb was personally involved in the brutal tactics used by the Janjaweed, including mass executions, sexual violence, and torture.

The conviction marks a significant milestone for the ICC, which has been investigating the Darfur conflict for over two decades.

Kushayb’s sentencing will be determined at a later date.
