The Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, narrowly escaped death in a coordinated attack by masked gunmen on Monday night.
The incident occurred around 10:05 p.m. along Ikirun Road in Osogbo, shortly after Omoyele closed from duty at the Amotekun Corps Headquarters.
According to Omoyele, he was driving home alone when armed men in a moving vehicle opened fire on his car, riddling it with bullets.
Despite being hit, Omoyele managed to drive through the hail of gunfire and escape.
He sustained gunshot wounds and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital under tight security, with his condition described as stable.
In a disturbing follow-up to the attack, about 15 masked men reportedly invaded Omoyele’s private residence later that same night, arriving in a Hilux van and a Toyota Highlander SUV, further deepening suspicions of a coordinated and premeditated plot.
The Amotekun Corps has confirmed the incident and is cooperating with the police to ensure a thorough investigation.
The Osun State government spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed the attack and stated that the Commissioner for Information has visited Omoyele at the hospital.
