Turkish giants Beşiktaş FC have announced Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi as the club’s new vice-captain, according to a statement released by the club’s board of directors on Friday.

Ndidi will serve as deputy to Turkish international Orkun Kökçü, who has been appointed team captain, replacing Necip Uysal and Mert Günok, the former captain and vice-captain, respectively.

“With the decision of our President Serdal Island and the Board of Directors, changes have been made regarding the captaincy of our Football A Team. Based on the recommendation of our technical team and the players’ influence on the field, Orkun Kökçü has been appointed as first captain and Wilfred Ndidi as second captain,” the statement read.

Beşiktaş thanked Uysal and Günok for their leadership and service to the club while wishing Kökçü and Ndidi success in their new roles.
The new captaincy pairing will officially begin their duties when Beşiktaş, currently sixth in the Turkish Super Lig with 13 points from seven matches, host Gençlerbirliği S.K. on Saturday, October 18, in Matchday 8 of the campaign.
