Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has denied reports circulating on social media claiming he has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the state government described the report as a baseless fabrication by political propagandists unsettled by the governor’s performance and growing popularity across party lines.
Kanu clarified that Governor Otti remains a proud and committed member of the Labour Party—the platform on which he was overwhelmingly elected by the people of Abia State.
“The publication is a desperate attempt to distract the public and sow seeds of confusion where none exists,” Kanu stated.

He quoted the governor as saying, “My focus remains unshaken—to rebuild Abia, restore accountability, and deliver the dividends of democracy to every citizen of the state.”
Kanu recalled that during the October edition of ‘Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians’, the governor made it clear that his interest lies not in political defections or permutations, but in service to humanity and the transformation of Abia State. “Governor Otti reaffirmed that leadership, to him, is about impact, not political convenience,” the Commissioner added.
He emphasized that the Otti-led administration continues to pursue a clear vision anchored on transparency, fiscal discipline, infrastructure renewal, economic growth, youth empowerment, and the restoration of public confidence in governance, values aligned with the ideals of the Labour Party.
“These are values the governor will never compromise for any political expediency,” Kanu said.
He urged the public to disregard the false report and treat it as cheap propaganda orchestrated by those seeking to divert attention from the state’s ongoing progress.
“We wish to assure Abians that Governor Alex Otti remains resolute in his mission to build a new Abia where truth, justice, and equity prevail—under the banner of the Labour Party,” the statement concluded.
