A section of the Alaba International Market in Lagos was gutted by fire on Tuesday evening, destroying several shops and properties.

Videos obtained showed multiple plazas near the Ojo Local Government Secretariat in Ojo town engulfed in flames as traders and residents watched helplessly.
Officials from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service were seen battling to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjoining buildings.

Located along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway, the Alaba International Market is one of West Africa’s largest trading hubs, renowned for its vast electronics, furniture, and building materials sections.
Tuesday’s inferno adds to a series of recent fire incidents across Lagos. In September, at least 10 people lost their lives in a fire that razed the Afriland Towers, a six-storey commercial building on Broad Street, Lagos Island.
