Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore was re-arrested by the Nigerian Police shortly after his appearance at the Kuje Magistrate Court in Abuja.
Despite meeting the bail conditions set by the court, which included a ₦500,000 bail bond with two sureties residing in the Federal Capital Territory, Sowore was taken into custody again.
The police reportedly acted on a fresh charge related to his public statement accusing President Bola Tinubu of being a criminal.
Sowore is expected to be arraigned on Monday, October 27, over the new charge.
This development has sparked widespread criticism from civil society groups and rights advocates, who view it as an attempt to silence dissenting voices and intimidate government critics.
