President Bola Tinubu has made significant changes to the country’s military leadership, appointing General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.
The President also appointed Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. These appointments take immediate effect.
The changes are part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture.
General Oluyede’s appointment comes after he served as the acting Chief of Army Staff, following the temporary indisposition of Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, who is receiving treatment abroad.
In a statement, President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their patriotic service and dedicated leadership.
He charged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by enhancing professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship within the Armed Forces.
The shake-up in the military hierarchy is aimed at improving coordination among the services and sustaining momentum in the fight against terrorism, banditry, and other security challenges across the country.
