In a surprise move, Namibia’s President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has taken over the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy, removing Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Natangwe Ithete from his posts.
The decision, announced by the presidency on Sunday, aims to ensure continuity and effective coordination within the sector, which has been instrumental in the country’s economic growth.
Namibia, rich in natural resources, including uranium and diamonds, is working towards its first crude oil production by 2030 after several major discoveries in recent years.
The presidency did not provide a reason for the change, but it highlights the president’s commitment to overseeing key sectors crucial to Namibia’s economic development.
