Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has thrown his hat into the ring for the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) national chairmanship position, promising to restore the party to its former glory.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Lamido, a founding member of the PDP and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed confidence in his ability to rebuild and reposition the party.
He revealed plans to visit the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, Wadata Plaza, to collect his nomination form today, October 27, 2025.
“By the grace of God, I shall today, Monday, 27th October 2025, by 11 a.m., be at Wadata Plaza, the national headquarters of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, to purchase the nomination form to run for the office of national chairman,” Lamido stated. “My commitment to democracy and resolve to restore our dear party to its old glory is unstoppable.”
This development comes as the PDP prepares for its national convention, where a new national chairman will be elected to steer the party forward.
Lamido’s decision is seen as a significant move, given his experience and reputation within the party.
The PDP national chairmanship contest has garnered attention, with other notable aspirants including former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Turaki, and former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi.
The party’s northern stakeholders had earlier endorsed Turaki as their consensus candidate, but Lamido’s declaration suggests a potentially contentious contest.
