Near the majestic Pyramids of Giza, Egypt has officially opened the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), a cultural highlight of the modern age that showcases the country’s rich history.

The world’s largest archaeological museum is packed with over 100,000 artifacts covering 7,000 years of Egyptian history, including the complete collection of treasures from King Tutankhamun’s tomb, displayed together for the first time since its discovery in 1922.

The museum’s most prized possessions include Tutankhamun’s spectacular gold mask, throne, and chariots.

According to Dr. Tarek Tawfik, president of the International Association of Egyptologists, the idea was to display the entire tomb’s contents, recreating the experience of Howard Carter’s discovery over a century ago. The museum’s grand opening is expected to attract up to 8 million visitors annually, boosting Egyptian tourism.

The GEM’s vast complex spans 500,000 square meters, featuring a pyramid-shaped entrance and stunning displays, including a 16-meter-long suspended obelisk of Ramesses II and his massive 11-meter-high statue.

Egyptologists are thrilled about the new museum, which they believe will drive new discoveries and strengthen Egypt’s demands for repatriating iconic antiquities, such as the Rosetta Stone and the Bust of Nefertiti.

With its impressive architecture and vast collections, the Grand Egyptian Museum is set to become a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and tourists alike.
