Nigeria and Werder Bremen defender, Felix Agu has been ruled out of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco due to injury.

The 26-year-old underwent surgery last month after suffering a syndesmosis ligament injury during Bremen’s 1-0 home win over St. Pauli. The setback had already kept him out of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin Republic.

Initially expected to be out for about two months, Bremen’s head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer, has now confirmed that Agu will not return until 2026.

“His return will definitely not take place until the new year,” Niemeyer told DeichStube.

Agu, who represented Germany at the youth level before switching allegiance to Nigeria, has made one appearance for the Super Eagles.
