The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported a total of 404 confirmed human cases of Rift Valley Fever (RVF), including 42 deaths, in Mauritania and Senegal between September 20 and October 30.
The outbreak has prompted national health authorities to take action, with the WHO providing support to contain the virus.
RVF is a mosquito-borne viral disease that primarily affects livestock but can also infect humans, causing symptoms ranging from mild flu-like illness to severe hemorrhagic fever.
The WHO is working with partners to support RVF surveillance, diagnostic capacity, patient care, and outbreak response activities in at-risk countries.
