Nigeria’s Falconets continued their impressive title defence at the 2025 WAFU B U-20 Girls Cup with a commanding 3-0 win over hosts Benin Republic on Sunday at the Stade Adjanhou.
Forward Ramotalahi Kareem once again stole the spotlight, netting a brace to guide the defending champions to their second straight victory in the competition.
The Falconets, who opened their campaign with a 3-1 triumph over Ghana, wasted no time asserting control. Kareem broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, finishing off a superb team move that showcased Nigeria’s fluid attacking rhythm.
Despite spirited efforts from the Beninese Amazones, the visitors remained in charge, dominating possession and carving out clear chances. Kareem struck again in the 59th minute, calmly slotting home her second of the game to give Nigeria a comfortable cushion.
Substitute Precious Oscar sealed the win deep into stoppage time, finishing off a swift counter-attack to make it 3-0 and cap another dominant performance from the Nigerians.
For her brace and tireless work rate, Kareem was deservedly named Player of the Match. With the victory, the Falconets sit firmly atop the three-team table and remain favourites to retain their regional crown. The win also highlights their defensive strength and attacking sharpness, having now scored six goals in two matches while conceding just once.
Nigeria’s earlier win over Ghana — courtesy of goals from Janet Akeremkowei and Favour Nkwocha — set the tone for a strong title defence, and Sunday’s result has only strengthened their grip on the competition.
The Falconets will return to action this week, facing Ghana and Benin again on Tuesday and Wednesday, as they look to complete a perfect run and claim back-to-back WAFU B U-20 titles.
