A member of the House of Representatives representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, Sagir Koki, has announced his resignation from the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), citing internal crisis within the party’s leadership.
In a letter addressed to the NNPP ward chairperson in Zaitawa ward, Koki stated that the crisis had made it difficult for him to discharge his duties and provide effective representation to his constituents.
Koki, a first-time lawmaker, expressed gratitude to the NNPP for the opportunity to serve, acknowledging the support, trust, and experience gained during his tenure.
He is expected to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), following in the footsteps of other NNPP lawmakers who have defected to the APC in recent months.
The resignation comes amidst speculation of a leadership crisis within the NNPP, with several lawmakers reportedly considering joining the APC.
Koki’s move is seen as a
significant blow to the NNPP, which is Nigeria’s fourth-largest political party and governs Kano state.
