A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to suspend its national convention, scheduled for November 15-16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, due to the exclusion of former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, from contesting for the party’s National Chairmanship.
Justice Peter Lifu ruled that Lamido was unfairly denied the opportunity to obtain a nomination form, violating the PDP Constitution and internal regulations.
The court directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to supervise, monitor, or recognize the outcome of any convention held without Lamido’s participation.
The PDP convention is now on hold, allowing Lamido to obtain the nomination form, mobilize supporters, and conduct his campaign.
This decision emphasizes the duty of political parties to provide members with genuine opportunities to serve and pursue their ambitions.
