Umar Moriki, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, was shot dead by suspected armed bandits on Saturday morning along the Gusau-Tsafe highway.
The APC state chapter confirmed the incident, describing it as a tragic loss to the party and the state.
Moriki, 62, had participated in the party’s stakeholders’ meeting hosted by Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, earlier that day.
He held several key positions, including Vice Chairman of Zurmi Local Government Area and Special Adviser on Rural Electrification, and contested the Zurmi/Shinkafi House of Representatives seat in 2023. Moriki is survived by three wives and several children.
