Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet Togo’s President Faure Gnassingbe in the Kremlin today to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation between Moscow and the West African nation.
The talks will focus on diplomacy, economy, trade, agriculture, energy, training, and food security.
Gnassingbe, whose family has ruled Togo since 1967, was invited to visit Russia by Putin.
This meeting reflects Russia’s growing influence in Africa, particularly in countries like Angola, Central African Republic, and Mali, which has raised concerns among Western European states and the United States.
Russia is a key player in the global fertilizer market, being the second-largest producer and largest exporter.
The country also sells grain to Togo, highlighting the potential for expanded economic cooperation.
