The South African and Zambian air forces have strengthened their bilateral defense relations with a series of high-level visits.

Lieutenant General Oscar Nyoni, Commander of the Zambia Air Force (ZAF), visited South Africa, while Vice Admiral David Mkhonto, Chief of the South African Department of Defence (DoD) Logistics Division, visited ZAF headquarters in Lusaka earlier this month.

The visits aimed to enhance cooperation in areas such as agricultural production, food security, and skills development.

Nyoni commended the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) for establishing Project Koba-Tlala, which provides skills training to SA Army Reserve Force personnel.

The ZAF is also involved in agricultural enterprises, contributing to national food security and employment creation.

The two air forces will deepen collaboration, sharing best practices and enhancing operational capacity in food production.

They will also participate in training exchange programs, including Junior and Senior courses. The ZAF delegation will visit South African Air Force (SAAF) bases and receive briefings on SAAF capabilities.

This cooperation comes after Zambia hosted the Southern African Development Community (SADC) airborne exercise, Blue Lugwasho, which involved 19 aircraft from several countries.
