The United Arab Emirates has announced a $1 billion initiative to expand artificial intelligence infrastructure and services across Africa, aiming to support national development priorities.
The “AI for development initiative” was unveiled at the G20 leaders’ summit in Johannesburg by UAE Minister of State Saeed Bin Mubarak Al Hajeri, focusing on key areas such as education, healthcare, and climate adaptation.
Al Hajeri emphasized the UAE’s commitment to responsible and inclusive AI development, highlighting the country’s significant investments in Africa, with bilateral trade reaching $107 billion in 2024 and total investments exceeding $118 billion between 2020 and 2024.
The initiative aligns with the UAE’s broader strategy to drive innovation and economic growth, positioning AI as a cornerstone of humanity’s future.
