Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a move seen as a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
Atiku formally registered as a member at Jada Ward 1 in Adamawa State, posting a photo of himself holding his ADC membership card with the caption, “It’s official”.
Atiku’s decision to join the ADC follows his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in July, amidst internal crisis.
The ADC has welcomed Atiku’s entry, with National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi stating that the party is not threatened by the ambitions of its leaders, including Atiku and Peter Obi.
Atiku’s move is seen as a strategic alliance to consolidate opposition votes and reshape Nigeria’s political dynamics.
The ADC has been positioning itself as a major opposition force, with Atiku’s entry expected to boost its chances in the 2027 elections.
