Former President Goodluck Jonathan has briefed President Bola Tinubu on the political crisis in Guinea-Bissau following the country’s disputed presidential election and military takeover.
Jonathan, who led the West African Elders Forum Election Observer Mission, met with Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, providing a first-hand account of the turmoil.
The former Bayelsa State governor called for the immediate release of detained opposition candidate Fernando Diaz and urged ECOWAS leaders to engage with the military to restore constitutional order.
He described the takeover as a “ceremonial coup” and stressed that Africa must move past frequent political crises.
