A bride-to-be and her bridesmaid were among 10 people abducted by suspected bandits in Chacho village, Sokoto State, early Sunday morning. The attackers struck around 1:30 a.m., just hours before the wedding was scheduled to take place.
The victims, mostly women, were preparing for the ceremony when the gunmen stormed the community, firing sporadically.
One person was injured during the raid and is receiving medical attention. Security operatives were alerted, but they arrived an hour after the attackers had fled, leaving villagers frustrated.
The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the attack, stating that preliminary information had been received and further details were being compiled.
This incident is the latest in a string of mass abductions rocking Nigeria, including an attack on a church in Kogi State where a pastor and his wife were kidnapped.
The attacks have sparked concerns about escalating insecurity in the region, with residents calling on the government to take responsibility for protecting citizens.
