The Nigerian Senate will screen former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, as the new Minister of Defence today, following his nomination by President Bola Tinubu.
General Musa’s nomination is in line with Section 147 of the Constitution and is aimed at strengthening internal peace and national security.
The screening is crucial, given the country’s current security challenges, including banditry, extremism, and terrorism. President Tinubu has expressed confidence in General Musa’s ability to lead the Ministry of Defence and further strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.
General Musa, who served as Chief of Defence Staff from 2023 to October 2025, is a distinguished soldier with extensive experience in security matters.
He won the Colin Powell Award for Soldiering in 2012 and has held various key positions, including Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai, and Commander of the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps.
