The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified seven out of nine aspirants, including former National Secretary Iyiola Omisore, from contesting the Osun State governorship primary.
The decision was made by the APC Screening Committee, chaired by Obinna Uzoh, citing failure to meet the party’s mandatory nomination criteria, particularly the requirement for sponsorship by at least five fully registered and financially up-to-date party members from each Local Government Area.
The disqualified aspirants include Omisore, Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, former Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi, Adegoke Rasheed Okiki, and Babajide Omoworare. Only Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji were cleared to contest the primary.
The committee’s decision followed a petition by the Osun APC Renewal Group, alleging irregularities in the nomination process.
The committee emphasized that the rules of the party are binding on all members, and aspirants must meet fundamental requirements.
The Osun APC primary is scheduled to produce the party’s flagbearer ahead of the 2026 governorship election, with the winner facing incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who recently left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
