The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has praised two Alpha Jet pilots for their exceptional courage and professionalism after they safely ejected from their aircraft during an in-flight emergency on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
The incident occurred shortly after take-off from NAF Base Kainji, Niger State, during a routine post-inspection functional check flight. According to a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the aircraft developed a critical malfunction just moments after becoming airborne.
Despite the sudden emergency, the pilots maintained composure and steered the jet away from residential areas to prevent casualties and damage on the ground before successfully ejecting. Both pilots landed safely and are reported to be in stable condition. They are currently undergoing standard post-ejection medical examinations.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, commended the airmen for their discipline, quick thinking and bravery, noting that their actions likely prevented a major disaster.
Air Marshal Aneke also ordered the immediate setup of a Board of Inquiry to determine the exact cause of the incident.
Reassuring the public, the Nigerian Air Force reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest safety and operational standards, emphasizing that rigorous maintenance and flight safety procedures remain a top priority.
