The Niger State Government has received 100 schoolchildren who were abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School, Papiri, in Agwara Local Government Area, on November 21.
Governor Mohammed Bago received the pupils at the Government House in Minna, the state capital.
The abductors, who arrived on motorbikes around 2 am, took 315 people, including 303 students and 12 teachers. While 50 pupils escaped within the first 24 hours, 265 victims remained in captivity until the recent release.
National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu had reassured parents and school authorities that the abducted children would soon return and were safe.
The government has not disclosed details about the circumstances of the release or the condition of the freed children.
