The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has sealed the Maitama residence of former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and ex-Governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, in Abuja.
Julius Bokoru, Sylva’s special assistant, condemned the action as unlawful, vindictive, and a violation of democratic norms, stating that the operation was executed without a warrant or notification.
Bokoru described the EFCC’s conduct as arbitrary and inconsistent with the values of an institution established to protect justice, adding that the agency’s actions were a grave breach of decency.
He dismissed suggestions that President Bola Tinubu sanctioned the operation, insisting that the President respects due process and fairness.
The EFCC had previously declared Sylva wanted in connection with an alleged $14,859,257 fraud involving the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical Limited.
