Nigerian military troops have successfully repelled a failed attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Mairari in Borno State.
The terrorists, who attempted to overrun the base in the early hours of Saturday, were thwarted by troops on duty.
According to sources, the terrorists advanced towards the base using vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs), but were forced to retreat due to the alertness and firepower of the troops.
Two VBIEDs were successfully neutralized, and several terrorists were killed during the exchange of fire, while others sustained gunshot wounds.
The military conducted a follow-up operation, recovering arms, ammunition, and other items believed to belong to the fleeing terrorists.
The situation at FOB Mairari remains calm, with troops maintaining dominance of the area. No casualties were recorded on the side of the military.
