President Bola Tinubu has rescinded the special promotion of his Aide-de-Camp (ADC), Colonel Nurudeen Alowonle Yusuf, to the rank of Brigadier General, following concerns raised within the Nigerian Army.
The decision, which was met with relief by military officers, came after consultations at the highest levels of the military and presidency regarding morale and promotion procedures.
The promotion had sparked controversy, with many officers questioning the qualifications and precedent, as Yusuf was only decorated as a Colonel in January this year, making it his second promotion within 12 months.
The Chief of Army Staff was summoned to Abuja to brief the President on the issue, and former Chief of Army Staff, General Alani Akinrinade, also intervened.
The Presidency is reviewing the composition of the President’s security detail, including the ranks of personnel holding key positions, amidst concerns about proper ranking and roles of security officers.
