A High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Labour Minister Chris Ngige, who is facing an eight-count charge of abuse of office and accepting gifts worth N2.2 billion from contractors of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).
Justice Mariam Hassan ruled that Ngige should meet the same bail conditions set by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He must produce a surety, a director-level civil servant with property in the court’s jurisdiction, and his surety must surrender their international passport until Ngige’s is replaced.
The trial is set for January 28-29, 2026.
