The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the African Nations League, a new annual competition aimed at providing a regular, high-quality platform for the continent’s senior national teams.

CAF said the tournament will feature Africa’s top teams and players, offering increased exposure and competitive opportunities at the continental level.

Announcing the initiative on its official X handle on Monday, CAF stated that the African Nations League would guarantee yearly world-class competition for senior national teams across the continent.

According to the football body, the league is designed to strengthen African football by ensuring more competitive fixtures, supporting player development, and boosting fan engagement.

CAF added that the annual nature of the competition would create consistency in elite-level football for African nations, while enhancing the global profile of the continent’s players and teams.

The launch underscores CAF’s broader strategy to elevate African football and provide sustainable growth opportunities for national associations, players, and supporters.

The development comes days after CAF President Patrice Motsepe announced plans to stage the Africa Cup of Nations every four years after the 2028 edition, marking a major shift from the tournament’s current biennial format.
