Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, has been installed as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade.
The grand ceremony, held at the Alaafin’s Palace in Oyo town on Sunday, turned the ancient city into a hub of political and cultural activity, attracting a host of high-profile dignitaries from across Nigeria.
The title “Okanlomo” translates to “the beloved child” and symbolizes a custodian of Yoruba values, unity, and cultural heritage.
Alongside Seyi Tinubu, who was accompanied by his wife Layal, former Zamfara State Governor and current Senator, Abdul’Aziz Yari, was also conferred the title of “Obaloyin of Yorubaland”.
The event was described as a significant step toward promoting national unity and saw an impressive turnout of political figures, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, former governors Abdullahi Ganduje and Gbenga Daniel, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu, and several federal ministers and senators.
The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly praised the installation as a recognition of Seyi Tinubu’s rising profile and philanthropic efforts, urging him to use the new title to promote unity and progress.
