The Super Eagles continued their preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with their fourth training session in Fes, Morocco, on Sunday, ahead of Tuesday’s Group C opener against Tanzania.

Nigeria will face the Taifa Stars at the Complexe Sportif de Fes in their first match of the group. Since arriving in Morocco last Thursday, the team has intensified preparations, holding two training sessions on Friday and additional sessions on Saturday and Sunday.

Before going to Morocco, the three-time African champions spent five days in camp in Egypt, where they played a pre-tournament friendly against the hosts, losing 2–1.

Tanzania, coached by Miguel Gamondi, are making their fourth AFCON appearance, having previously featured in 1980, 2019 and 2023. The East Africans are yet to record a win at the tournament, with three draws and six defeats in nine matches.

Gamondi is expected to rely on the experience of captain Mbwana Samatta, who plays for Le Havre in France, and Simon Msuva, currently based in Iraq. Other key players include wing-back Mohammed Hussein of Young Africans and midfielder Feisal Salum of Azam FC.

After their opening fixture against Tanzania, Nigeria will face Tunisia on December 27 before rounding off their group campaign against Uganda on December 30.

The Super Eagles, runners-up at the last edition after losing the final to hosts Ivory Coast, are aiming to win a fourth AFCON title, having previously lifted the trophy in 1980, 1994 and 2013.

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations kicked off on Sunday with hosts Morocco facing Comoros, as the continent’s biggest football showpiece gathers momentum.
